With Valentine's/Galentine's day right around the corner, I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than spending the evening out on the town with some of my favorite gals and chefs at the Mockingbird Pop- Up: Eat Your Heart Out. This cupid-inspired pop-up supper was truly a celebration of love and friendship.
I have been a fan of the Goldberg Brothers for years. They single handedly changed my twenties opening up one of the very first trendsetting bars in Nashville, Bar Twenty3. As their Nashville footprint grew, they launched Strategic Hospitality, responsible for 75% of my favorite bars and restaurants in Nashville. Anytime I hear about one of their concepts brewing, I can't wait to check it out.
January is always a tough month for me. Not only am I coming off my holiday hangover, but it's terribly cold and gloomy. To add fuel to the fire, many of my friends are striving to successfully achieve their new year resolutions which means- "No, we won't meet you after work for that glass of wine, we have to hit the gym! " Womp Womp. Trying to shake my winter funk, I decided to warm up at Nicky's Coal Fired.
Twenty-seven years ago, before Nashville was considered a foodie destination and Germantown was filled with some of the best fine dining in the south, Craig and Marcia Jervis took a chance and opened The Mad Platter. It's hard to imagine Germantown without this neighborhood staple, but times they are a changing.
I was thrilled when The Mockingbird Nashville announced a second December pop-up. Christmas came early for this girl. Not only was it the perfect excuse for a girls night out, but having the chance to get a sneak peek of what's on the menu? Um, done!
Confession: After spending a few weeks in Italy this summer, I quickly adapted to their way of life, especially the food. What am I saying? It practically turned me into a food snob. Fresh ingredients were abundant. Pasta, vegetables, and meats. Practically anything you needed for an authentic Italian meal right at your fingertips.
If you follow the Chicago food scene, you may know Brian Riggenbach from Yo Soy Underground Supper Club. Most of us know and love him from his appearance on Chopped. For those of you unfamiliar with the cooking reality show (even though I am quite certain everyone knows about this :) each chef is challenged to make an appetizer, entree and dessert using a specific set of random and interesting ingredients. Such a fun show to watch if you are intrigued by culinary creativity.
Dia De Muerto otherwise known as Day of the Dead is celebrated throughout Mexico where family and friends gather to pay tribute to those loved ones who have passed on and help support of their spiritual journey. These days, I rarely have time to sit down and read a book. Let’s be honest, I am lucky enough to keep up with meetings, conference calls and only because of The Skimm am I well aware of what’s going on in the news. When I found out that Andrew Tarlow was making a trip to Nashville and partnering with one of my favorite restaurants in town, Rolf and Daughters, I knew this was an event not to be missed
For those of you unfamiliar with Ashley Christensen, please let me take this time to introduce you. She is the brilliant woman and driving force behind Poole's Diner, Beasley's Chicken+Honey and many other Raleigh favorites. Ashley discovered her passion for cooking early on. While most of us were attending sorority/fraternity parties and football games, she was cultivating her creativity and using her college living quarters as her first official test kitchen.
There's no shortage of festivals in Tennessee. Whether it's food and wine, music, or film, we've got them covered. However, when I heard the National Banana Pudding Festival was hosted less than an hour from my house, I knew a road trip was in order. Every time I have banana pudding, I am reminded of my Nanny and how she would often make this for our Sunday dinners because it was one of my Papa's favorite desserts.
Forgive me. I am WAY behind on the blog. Not only did I cover the Music City Food and Wine Festival but a few days later, I hopped on a plane to Belgium to do a little exploring. Needless to say, this post is totally overdue. Sorry gang!
Torrential downpours did not stop festivalgoers from coming out to Bicentennial Capitol Mall and checking out the Music City Food + Wine Festival. Attendees doubled up with umbrellas and ponchos and made their way through the demonstration and grand tasting tents.
Deb Paquette has built quite the fan base over the past thirty years. When she and her husband, Ernie, closed Zola in 2010, Nashville grieved the loss of an extraordinary restaurant. Imagine the excitement throughout the city when Deb emerged back on the food scene in 2012 with Etch.
Virago joined it's other M Street friends, Tavern and Saint Anejo, on Saturday, September 10th serving up brunch to Nashville's finest. Virago never disappoints, so I was anxiously awaiting the chef's creations.
As soon as a new workout studio makes it way to Nashville, I am usually one of the first people through the door and Cyclebar was no different. I threw caution to the wind, signed up for a Saturday morning class and hauled my tookus to Franklin
