As we continue our “ Drink The Rainbow” series on TJ Tuesday, I thought it would be nice if we moved on to a red wine that had a bit more body than the Pinot Noir that we tasted last week. The bottle that we are tasting this week, was recommended by Cheese Gal last fall. Since then, I’ve enjoyed several bottles of this wine and wanted to share it with all of you because it is that good.

This week we are sampling Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore which is produced in Veneto, Italy. Valpolicella wine was something I was unfamiliar with, heck, I couldn’t even pronounce it! But as I drank it, I fell in love. This particular bottle of Valpolicella is produced by Cecelia Beretta. We’ve sampled several of their wines throughout TJ Tuesday and never been disappointed.

One thing to note is that this bottle was produced using the Ripasso technique. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this winemaking style, the Ripasso method “ re-passes” Valpolicella wine on the dried skins of Amarone or appassimento wines. Before I go on a downward wine geek spiral, let’s start tasting, shall we?

TASTING NOTES:

  • Classic Cork

  • Deep ruby color

  • Notes of red cherry on the nose with hints of currant

  • Rich/full-bodied

  • Dry, earthy feel in the mouth but overall well-balanced

  • Trader Joe’s states that it’s a rich and sweet wine that is best served with rich means and BBQ. Serve between 64-68F

Verdict:  This is a fantastic bottle of wine. Whether you a pairing this with a charcuterie board or just having happy hour relaxing at home, this bottle won’t disappoint. Grab a bottle and let me know what you think!

Until Next Time!
