We’ve had some wild winter weather in the last 48 hours. I hope that you and your loved ones are safe and warm. I did an Instagram poll earlier in the week, and it looks like we are taking a trip to Malizia, Italy for TJ Tuesday. Tonight we will sample the Golden Adventures Series Chianti from Aldi. Given the price point and my lack of experience with Aldi wines, I am going into this tasting with zero expectations. To ensure I taste all the flavors, I’ll decant this bottle of wine and allow it to open up while I make the infamous feta pasta that’s making its way through TikTok and Instagram.

TASTING NOTES:

  • Classic Cork

  • Medium body; garnet hue

  • Bright flavors; notes of red berries, specifically cherry, cranberry, and hints of raspberry

  • Slight spiciness and notes of oak

  • Drier than other wines we have sampled throughout February

  • Mild acidity; pleasant aroma

Verdict:

Again, I went into tonight’s tasting with zero expectations and was pleasantly surprised, especially at the price point. The wine paired quite well with the feta pasta, and I think it would be even better with pizza. This is a great wine to sip on while you’re cooking, and you can even incorporate it into a marinara or meatball sauce you’ve got simmering on the stove to give it a little extra kick. Let’s face it, this $4.99 price point allows for quite a bit of flexibility. After all, it’s the same price as a Starbucks latte. Whether you pick up a few bottles for family pizza night or grab a bottle to revisit a wine you’re on the fence about- it’s worth the gamble.

If you pick up a bottle of this wine at your local Aldi, I’d love to hear what you pair it with!

Until Next Time!
