It’s not often that I reach into the archives for my wine reviews, but there are several bottles of wine that I’ve picked up at Trader Joe’s over the last month or so that I simply have not had the time to try. And if I’m being honest, my wine cabinet is teeming, so it’s time to take one for the team and make space.

While typically, I’d have a glass in hand brimming with my favorite springtime selection, this week I am sampling a red Bordeaux, Chateau Haut-Sorillon. This bottle is priced at $10.99, so I’m excited to see how it compares to others I have sampled.

Let’s jump into the tasting notes, shall we?

Tasting Notes:

  • Deep ruby hue

  • Full-bodied

  • Notes of dark plum and red cherry

  • Mineral/earthy overtones yet fruity on the palate

  • Strong Tannins

Verdict:

Well, gang, this bottle was interesting and complex. To start, I’d recommend serving this one with these ever so slightest chill. I’d also recommend decanting it or at least running it through the wine aerator to open it up because it packs a punch compared to other reds that I often enjoy. This would be fantastic with strong cheeses and even a steak or hearty stew. If you’re one who wants to open the wine and start drinking, this may not be the bottle for you as it does need some time in the glass before you can fully enjoy the complexity. I don’t dislike it, but I lean towards more fruit-forward, balanced wine with a little less minerality. As they say, you never know until you try! If you happen to grab this bottle on your next shopping adventure, let me know what you think!

Until Next Time!
