Happy Birthday, Louis!

Louis 200 | 660 Madison Avenue New York, New York (Old Barney’s Space)

When one of your favorite fashion houses decides to celebrate its 200th birthday, you know it’s an event not to be missed. After spending ten months on display in Paris, Singapore, and Los Angeles, the “200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries” exhibit made its final stop in New York City, where it took up residency in the former Barney’s space. The exhibition celebrates the designer’s innovative spirit, iconic trunks, and the fashion house’s 200 birthday.

As the exhibit’s name alludes to, the project features 200 trunks imagined and designed by visionaries, friends, artists, and designers of the fashion house. Each creative was asked to customize a blank canvas measuring 50 x 50 x 100 centimeters, the approximate dimensions of the first trunk designed in the 1850s.

LV200 was initiated as a philanthropic endeavor. As such, Louis Vuitton donated over 2 million dollars (approximately €10,000 in the name of and on behalf of each visionary) to one of fifteen non-profit organizations from across the globe.

Below you will find some of my favorite pieces from the exhibit. The time and effort that went into designing each of these pieces are astonishing. For my OG Louis Vuitton lovers, I know you will enjoy the Marc Jacobs & Steven Sprouse trunk as it pays homage to the 2001 collaboration ( one of my favorite LV purchases of all time). For obvious reasons, I fell in love with the Lego birthday cake. This one, in particular, was a collaboration between the LV French atelier and seven children. It took over 50 hours and 31,700 legos. For my music lovers, another show standout was the trunk designed by Benji B. For those unfamiliar with Benji B, he is one of the world’s most respected music curators. His creation was a vintage-inspired jukebox featuring 100 classic 7” singles from all music genres and decades. He chose those representing the ethos and sonics of the Louis Vuitton Sound & Record Club. If your schedule permits, spend some time in the room that houses this incredible creation. The docent will gladly play requests.

Without further ado, let’s look at some of these incredible art pieces! Shall we?

For guests looking to do a little shopping, there’s a pop-up shop on the first floor that carries exhibition collectibles, small leather goods, accessories, and various books. I was thrilled to snag a poster from the exhibit and one of the limited-edition canvas totes.

For my nostalgic New Yorkers and Barney enthusiasts, make sure you snag a reservation at Fred’s, located on the 9th floor. They serve some of the fan-favorite dishes as well as an assortment of wines and cocktails curated from the LVMH portfolio.

The exhibit is located at 660 Madison Avenue and runs through December 31st. Admission is free, but reservations are strongly recommended. If you are interested, book the preferred time for your visit HERE.
