Everyone handles stress differently. Me? I have a system. Lagree, errands, and zeroing out my inbox. It’s a routine that holds most weeks without much negotiation. But lately, the 9-to-5 has a way of testing even the most disciplined of routines, and lately it’s been winning. Tonight didn’t call for the Megaformer. Tonight called for something with a cork.
This evening I am pouring up the 2024 Moulin Jamet Sancerre Rosé. Candidly, this is the first time I have enjoyed a Sancerre Rosé. Sancerre is overwhelmingly known for Sauvignon Blanc. The reds and rosés, made from Pinot Noir, represent a tiny fraction of the appellation’s output, so those wines see far less distribution than whites. Yet another reason, I grabbed this off the shelf.
If we think about wine basics 101, Sancerre Rosé is Pinot Noir vinified as a rosé, often pale in color, mineral-forward with red-fruit notes, quite different from the fruit-forward Provençal style that many of us are used to.
Before I geek out too much, let’s jump into the tasting details, shall we?
Tasting Notes:
Pale pink hue
Notes of strawberry and fresh peaches
Slight floral notes- think fresh cut roses
Subtle minerality with crisp acidity and a mild finish
Verdict:
The 2024 Moulin Jamet Sancerre Rosé is worth trying once, and I am glad I did. But in a crowded shelf of rosé, this one didn't stand out enough to earn a permanent spot on my summer rotation. Drop your thoughts in the comments below. I’m genuinely curious if I am in the minority here!
Until Next Time!
