Hello, friends!
By now, you know my feelings about Ruggero Di Bardo Susamaniello, a bottle I've featured before and one that has held a permanent spot in my wine cellar ever since. So when I spotted a rosé from the same producer on a recent TJ's run, I may have caused a small scene in the wine aisle. And for $9.99, I grabbed a bottle without hesitation because I knew it would be that good.
Susumaniello flies well under the radar, even among wine enthusiasts, which is precisely what makes it interesting. Think Gamay, Cinsault, Grenache: the rosé grapes that deliver time and time again. Same energy here, just with a southern Italian accent.
What makes this bottle worth the small scene I caused in the wine aisle is the fact that it holds its own against the red that earned my love and loyalty in the first place. Same producer, same grape, different register. The Rosato is everything the Susamaniello does well, translated into something you’ll want to open all summer.
Without further ado, let’s jump into the tasting details, shall we?
Tasting Notes:
Pale pink hue
Notes of pink grapefruit with a subtle hint of red berries/ cherries
Hint of floral notes ( Possibly my favorite peonies, but that could be because I bought a few bundles when I grabbed the bottle, and they are on the brain)
Delicate structure with medium body
Juicy with a bittersweet pink grapefruit pith finish
Verdict:
What a bottle! The grapefruit and acidity keep this bottle feeling fresh and lifted. To me, it bridges the gap between the watery rosés that are often so popular in the summer and the fuller styles that are too heavy for your typical patio pounder. If you adore French rosé, this may not be the bottle for you, but for this price point, I highly recommend giving it a try! It’s light, bright, and a fantastic summer refresher.

Until Next Time!
