I don’t know if it’s just Nashville or the entire Southeast, but it is HOT. Everyone handles the heat differently. Some head straight for the pool, some may grab an ice cream cone, while others simply refuse to leave their air conditioning. While I love a good pool day, I’ve found there’s no better way to beat the heat than hanging at home and popping open a chilled bottle of wine. What can I say, it really hits the spot and the first sip is always so crisp and refreshing that it’s exactly what I need to take the edge off the heat.
During my last visit to Trader Joe’s, I noticed a new bottle squeezed between the rosés and the singular bottle of Orange Wine they had in stock. If you’ve followed my wine journey for any length of time, you know I try every single Orange Wine that Trader Joe’s carries. From The Puppet, Slice, and even Tarongino, no bottle has been left behind. I spotted Ile De Conas RoseOrange on the shelf, and I have to admit, I was intrigued. The shelf tag gave minimal information: “ An elegant bridge between French Rosé and Orange Wine.”
Notes from the producer: “ Ile de Conas RosOrange is a wine with an innovative and assertive profile. A subtle blend of rosé wine ( made from the direct pressing of red grapes with limited skin contact from white and gris grapes) and orange hued wine (from fermentation on white grape skins) bringing both freshness and character, breaking the codes!”
For $7.99, why not give this a try?
Let’s get into it, shall we?
Tasting Notes:
Blush pink hue with orange highlights when the light hits just right
On the nose, peach and apricot
Medium-full bodied wine with a smooth and supple mouthfeel
Dry with light tannins
Would pair nicely with a cheese board
Verdict
I love the concept of this wine- combining two of my favorites into one bottle. But frankly, I expected it to have a little more structure and funkiness that you often find with Orange Wines. This bottle still drank like a Rosé for me. Is it worth $7.99? Absolutely. Pick up a bottle and try it for yourself. Is it one that I will be grabbing on repeat? Likely not, as there are other bottles of Rosé that I like better. If you decide to try a bottle, let me know what you think in the comments below!
Until Next Time!
