Fall has officially arrived in Nashville, bringing a seasonal shift in the kitchen. The crockpot is making its long-awaited return, comfort food is back on the menu, and a good bottle of wine is never far from the equation. Consider this the season for slow-simmered suppers, generous pours, and the simple pleasure of coming home to dinner that’s been taking care of itself all afternoon. If there’s ever a time to make a little ritual of staying in, this is it.
A Trader Joe’s run for fall provisions is rarely just a Trader Joe’s run, particularly when the wine aisle enters the chat. While gathering ingredients for a crockpot supper, I spotted a bottle of 2025 Trader Joe’s Reserve Grenache Blanc from Paso Robles and paused. The grape was unfamiliar territory for me, and there’s something irresistible about a wine you know little about. Am I right? Naturally, it found its way into my cart. Dinner may have been the original mission, but a little wine discovery was an equally welcome addition to the evening’s agenda.
If Grenache Blanc is new to you, you’re not alone. It’s a white grape originally from Spain, also widely grown in France, particularly in the Rhône Valley. Imagine flavors of pear, green apple, citrus, and some hints of herbs. Depending on how it’s made, Grenache Blanc can be light and refreshing or richer and rounder in texture. While it’s often blended with other white grapes in France, it can also stand on its own. For anyone who enjoys exploring beyond the usual Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, this is a great grape to add to your list.
Now that we know a little more about what we are drinking, let’s get into the tasting details, shall we?
Tasting Notes:
The label states, “Notes of citrus blossom, mandarin orange, and pear lead to a juicy mid-palate, ahead of a crisp mineral finish.”
Light, clear, and slightly golden hue
On the nose, aromas of lemon, mandarin orange, and even hints of honeydew melon
On the palate, notes of apricot and grapefruit with a mineral finish
On the lower end of the acidity spectrum
Verdict:
The 2025 Trader Joe’s Reserve Grenache Blanc is a lovely option for anyone looking to venture beyond their usual white wine lineup. At around $10 a bottle, it’s an easy addition to the cart and a reminder that sometimes the best wine discoveries happen when you aren’t looking for them; I’d happily pick that one up again.
