2020 will be the first year since I’ve entered the workforce where I have an excess of vacation. I know, first world problems, but it’s one that I have yet to encounter during my career. Usually, I am over here adding days to long holiday weekends just to squeeze in one more trip, while many of my coworkers feel guilty about leaving or simply don’t want to deal with the piles of work they will come back to. Regardless of the situation, I’m sure we can all relate to one of these.

Rather than lead a life of “all work and no play, “ I’ve decided to treat myself and use my vacation days to take a break from screen time and allow myself time to disconnect. One day, I booked a facial, another time, I treated myself to an indulgent lunch and wandered around the Frist. During my most recent day off, I visited an alpaca farm. Yes, you read that correctly. I spent my most recent day off playing with the alpacas at Mistletoe Farm Alpacas.

I am an animal lover and when one of my dear friends told me about her visit to Mistletoe Farm, I knew I had to go. After all, who doesn’t want to spend an afternoon hanging out playing with alpacas?

For those of you who are looking for something to do with the kiddos during fall break or are just looking to break away from the computer for a bit, I’ve got everything you need to know about Mistletoe Farm Alpacas.

Where is Mistletoe Farm Alpacas located?

Mistletoe Farm Alpacas is located approximately 18 miles south of Nashville nestled in the countryside of Franklin, Tennessee. The farm can easily be accessed from interstates I-65 or I-840.

Do I need a reservation or can I swing by the farm?

A reservation is required to visit the farm. Guests can inquire about availability by filling out the form HERE or calling 615-202-1054. Given the fact that everyone is looking for outdoor activities during COVID, time slots fill up rather quickly. Leanne does a great job responding to requests as soon as her schedule permits. Keep in mind, she is hosting all the groups on the farm, so to say she’s busy is a bit of an understatement.

How much does it cost to visit?

Private visits are available in half-hour or hour increments. Half-hour visits to the farm are $50.00 for up to five guests, and one-hour visits are available for $100.00. Knowing that we would fall in love with the alpacas, we opted for the one hour visit. Leanne is a fantastic host and does a wonderful job telling you about the alpacas and answering any questions you might have. In addition to that, she snaps candid pictures during your visit and airdrops them at the end of your visit. If you’re deciding between a half-hour visit or a one-hour visit, I’d recommend the half-hour visit as it’s more economical and you’ll have plenty of time with the alpacas.

Is there anything specific that I need to bring or wear?

Be comfortable. It was rather warm when we went, so I wore a dress and boots that I could walk the farm in. You might get a little dirty and/or dusty from hanging out with these angels, but that’s about as wild as it gets.

Anything else I need to know before I go?

In the event of inclement weather, visits may be rescheduled because, like us, alpacas don’t want to be out in the rain.

If you have some flexibility with the time of your visit, I’d recommend going earlier in the day. We were the last visit of the day, and the alpacas were tired. Don’t get me wrong some were willing to play an enjoyed eating leaves while the others were over it.

At the end of your visit, guests have the option to visit the shop where they sell yarn and other handmade products.

2020 has been such a crazy year, but I am grateful that it has pushed me out of my normal routine as I have been encouraged to explore this beautiful state I call home. Whether you are an animal lover like me or looking for something new and different to do with the family, check out Mistletoe Farm Alpacas. I promise, you will leave with a smile on your face.

Until Next Time!
