Who said Halloween is just for the kiddos? This year, I traded in my costume and candy bucket for something a little more refined…a tote bag clinking with bottles. This year, my version of adult trick-or-treating meant wandering the aisles of Trader Joe’s, hunting for a new wine that promised more treats than tricks. And since my TJs is undergoing construction, that proved to be a little more difficult than I expected. Literally the only things I still know are where the veggies and wine are located. However, I still managed to spot one mysterious label and decided to make it the star of the evening.
What followed, you might ask?
A delightfully grown-up celebration, think less sugar rush and more tannins with a side of cozy autumnal vibes and just the right amount of mischief.
So without further ado, let’s jump into the tasting details, shall we?
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby red hue; almost opaque in the glass
Notes of rich black fruit on the nose- think blackberry, black cherry, and hints of plum when it opens
Spicy undertones throughout, specifically notes of pepper
Full-bodied with a lingering finish
Verdict
You may recall that I tried a similar-looking Pinot Noir several weeks ago, Sunshine Mountain Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023. Given how enjoyable that bottle was, I knew I was in for a treat. My first glass proved to be rich, a little moody, and perfectly in tune with the Halloween spirit. I will say this is a bottle you will want to let open rather than diving headfirst into a glass —much more enjoyable that way! If you grab a bottle, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
Until Next Time!
