Maybe it’s just me, but January made me feel all 31 days and then some.
Between winter storm Fern tearing through Nashville and being displaced from my home for several days, I felt completely wiped out. You know what I am talking about, the bone-deep exhaustion that only comes from too many cold nights and too little normacy. All I wanted was something simple and comforting: to crank up the heat, sink into the couch, and pour a generous glass of red.
Enter 2022 Juggernaut Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.
This bottle wasn’t on my radar before, but I spotted it at Trader Joe’s and was immediately drawn in by the bold label. What can I say… sometimes the universe, or at least the wine aisle, sends you exactly what you need.
Into the cart it went.
Undoubtedly, the first pour was pure comfort. But before I share too much, let’s jump into the tasting details, shall we?
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby hue with a slight translucence around the edges
Notes of red fruit, particularly red cherry and raspberry, and subtle strawberry undertones
Hints of earthiness and baking spice, specifically vanilla
Medium-bodied wine with smooth tannins and just enough acidity/brightness to keep things interesting
Verdict:
After days of storm stress and living out of a suitcase with my anxious cats ( thank goodness for incredible friends), this was a wine that delivered exactly what I needed- comfort. It was warm, velvety, and before I knew it, I was already through my second glass. Paired with a cozy night in (and ideally something like roasted chicken, risotto, or even your favorite pizza), it felt like a small luxury and a gentle reminder that sometimes the best bottles are the ones you discover by accident. While this may not be every Pinot lover's cup of tea, I found the bottle to be quite enjoyable and would definitely purchase it again.
