Weekend Wandering: Evins Mill

IMG_8242.JPG

Until this pandemic is officially behind us, I plan on making the most of this situation or least distracting myself from it. I can’t say that I’m the most outdoorsy person. Call me cliche or high-maintenance for that matter, but camping for days on end without wi-fi, air conditioning or running water is not something I’m excited about. Tell me there’s an outdoor patio, and cocktails are involved, and I’m there. But like many of you, this pandemic has redefined my definition of adventure. I’ve traded in fitness classes for “driveway workouts” and walks around the neighborhood and rather than catching flights, I’m taking the road less traveled and discovering all the hidden treasures in Tennessee.

This past weekend, one of my dear friends introduced me to one of her favorite spots in Tennessee, Evins Mill. Undoubtedly, it was one of the best weekends I’ve had all summer. Simply put, hiking feeds your soul. As your body may navigate those fallen trees and uneven surfaces, your mind is free to wander and be inspired by the beauty and vastness that is Mother Earth,

Tell me more…Can I spend the weekend here?

Yes, Evins Mill offers a variety of lodging options. In addition to the weekend getaways, Evins Mill hosts corporate retreats, weddings, and even the occasional day-tripper, like me.

What if I’m not an outdoorsy person?

If outdoor adventures aren’t your thing, there are still plenty of things to keep you entertained. Aside from the billiards, foosball, ping-pong table, and board games, guests can grab a book and curl up in one of the many hammocks on the property and relax or even catch a nap. If that’s still not your thing, there’s satellite television and an extensive DVD library.

I’m not quite the “expert” hiker. Will I survive the trails?

Of course, you most certainly will survive the trails. I’m a novice when it comes to hiking. Radnor Lake and Percy Warner are the extents of my hiking efforts. As long as you have proper footwear and pay close attention to your footing, you will have no problem.

Tell me more about this day-tripping package.

For those of you who are looking for a change of scenery and want to enjoy the property without staying there, Evins Mill offers a day-tripping package for $25.00/person. For children five years old and younger, the price is $15.00 and does not include lunch. Note- this option may or may not be available depending on existing reservations.

This package includes all-day access to the forested, forty-acre property along with a hearty sack lunch. For those who are craving adventure, hike to the Overlooks and Carmac Falls. If you are looking for a place to quiet your mind or perhaps read a book, grab one of the rocking chairs or porch swings, and simply take in the view. Rest assured, whatever you choose to do with your time, it’s time well spent.

What COVID-19 precautions are being taken by Evins Mill?

Evins Mill has adopted a variety of protocols and practices to mitigate the risk of catching COVID-19. If you’d like to read about these protocols, click HERE. When we made our reservations, Evins Mill was limiting the Day-Trippers to forty people to reduce the number of people wandering throughout the property. It’s also important to note that only registered guests can enjoy the property.

I can’t wait! Tell me what I need to bring!

Here are a few things that I found helpful during this excursion:

  • Sunscreen

  • Swimsuit

  • Towel

  • Water shoes ( trust me, you don’t want to get your sneakers/hiking shoes wet)

  • Change of clothes

  • Sunglasses

  • Hat

  • Bug Spray

  • Snacks (although the sack lunch is more than enough)

I’m in! How do I make my reservations?

For those interested in the day-tripping package, RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED, and you must call (615.269.3740) no later than 24 hours prior. If you are looking to reserve lodging, feel free to call that number, email Evins Mill HERE, or reserve online.

Evins Mill is the perfect escape for those looking to have a little mountain experience in the heart of middle Tennessee. If you decide to visit the property, I’d love to hear about your experience and what you think about that gorgeous waterfall!

Until Next Time!
