Mexico City | Two Must-Try Breakfast Spots for Your Next Morning Out

Panaderia Gala | Assortment Of Pastries

Mornings in Mexico City have a unique rhythm. Sunlight spills over colorful building facades, the hum of conversation drifts from café terraces, and the irresistible scent of espresso fills the air.

Perfection, no matter how you look at it.

Don’t get me wrong, when it comes to breakfast in Mexico City, travelers are truly spoiled for choice. The city’s café scene blends tradition and creativity, from classic bakeries to sleek, modern brunch spots. Panadería Rosetta, famous for its guava roll and other fresh pastries, is at the top of every first-timer’s list. Meanwhile, those visiting annually often skip the lines in Roma Norte and head to one of my favorites in Condesa, Odette.

For me, it’s a breakfast spot that hits all the right notes: a well-made cappuccino, a raspberry kouign-amann that’s to die for, and a relaxed neighborhood vibe that makes you wonder if you should move there instead of just visiting.

Whether you’re easing into the day after a late night or preparing for a full day of exploring, breakfast is a moment to slow down and savor. From beautifully plated chilaquiles to perfectly crafted lattes, I have two places that capture the essence of Mexico City mornings. Both are warm, vibrant, and full of flavor.

If you have followed Blonde Voyage Nashville for any length of time, you know that I do my research before a trip. Whether it’s reading blogs and cross-referencing those recommendations with listicles or spending an obscene amount of time on social media, I do it all for the sake of research.

Of course, when I learned of a “speakeasy” panaderia that was just a quick walk away from my hotel, I immediately put it at the top of my travel itinerary.

Tucked away behind an unmarked door in Roma Norte, Panaderia Gala is the kind of place you only find if you know where to look. Fortunately, a fellow food enthusiast made a TikTok that included the entrance, so I knew exactly what to look for.

Once you approach the door, you ring a buzzer and walk down a quiet, nondescript hallway. Within a matter of moments, you’ve left the hustle and bustle of the city and landed in a small bakery that smells like butter and fresh bread.

Take a minute and let it all soak in.

You won’t find a big sign or flashy display, just a few trays of beautiful pastries and a team of skilled bakers working right in front of you.

Keep in mind…

This isn’t an overly large space. There’s one communal table that accommodates five, maybe six people, and the remainder of the area is dedicated to an open-kitchen/production setup. I found it to be more of a boutique for baked goods, as it felt more intimate than grabbing a bag of laminated treats and leaving.

You might be asking, "Why is this panadería any different than the others sprinkled throughout CDMX?"

Panaderia Gala was created by acclaimed chef Eduardo Garcia and his longtime partner and collaborator Gabriela Lopez. You know, the power duo behind some of Mexico City’s most beloved restaurants, including Máximo Bistrot ( last seen HERE) and Lalo!.

Together, they’ve built a reputation for elevating everyday dining into something quitely refined, and Gala reflects that same spirit. The result is a bakery that feels personal and intentional —a place rooted in skill, simplicity, and excellent pastries.

My advice: arrive early and leisurely sample as many pastries as you can. After all, you’re on vacation!

Bobo Burgers & Café

This next location stopped me dead in my tracks as soon as I saw a picture of their pancake. What can I say, it was love at first sight. If you are looking for a spot that’s easy, but will still have you talking about it later, head to Bobo Café. The menu has all the comforting brunch things you crave when you’re traveling: fresh-squeezed orange juice, a breakfast burrito that will make your eyes roll back in your head, and, yes, of course, golden pancakes and strong espresso. Everything is simple, well-made, and absolutely delicious.

Aside from ordering the Pancake Bobo for the table — the only way to do it, if you ask me — I wanted to try their Breakfast Burrito. When I tell you I devoured it, there was not one morsel left behind.

Bobo Café | Pancake Bobo

Now let’s talk all things pancake.

The Pancake Bobo is the kind of dish that makes breakfast feel like a small celebration. It’s tall, fluffy, golden-brown, and it’s as if each bite melts in your mouth. Guests can order the pancake with or without bacon, and seeing as I’m a pancake purist, I opted for butter only. Give a girl a syrup dispenser and you likely won’t hear a word come out of my mouth for quite some time.

I haven’t had a pancake this good since lou closed in Nashville. It’s the kind of pancake that begs to be savored slowly, preferably with a sip of perfectly brewed coffee or fresh juice on the side and just the right amount of sweet syrup drizzled on top.

To me, Bobo has the total neighborhood-hangout vibes. It’s where you see a mix of locals, creatives, and travelers who clearly get it and know this is one of the best places in town.

Bobo Café doesn’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait for a table.

Dining at Bobo Café and Panaderia Gala captures two sides of Mexico City mornings: the indulgent, lingering brunch of a café and the aromatic charm of a bakery. Together, they remind you that the city’s best experiences are found in life’s simple pleasures: good food, thoughtful details, and a little time to savor it all.

Until Next Time!

Catherine Courtney

Welcome to Blonde Voyage Nashville!

I am so excited to finally see this dream become a reality.  Between the destination restaurants, the copious amount of food photos and insanely crazy travel stories, I have decided to share my journey.

My name is Catherine Courtney and I am a Nashville native with a penchant for culinary creativity and epic travel adventures. I'll admit... I also have a slight obsession with handbags.

Two years ago, my life changed completely.  Everything that I knew to be was completely turned upside down.  I quickly realized that time is our greatest commodity and it's not to be taken for granted. I couldn't wait for the perfect time, who knew when that would be.  I needed to take the leap and explore the world on my own.  There were so many places I wanted to go, but where would I start.

France was always one of those places that I had romanticized.  Wandering the streets of Paris and seeing the Eiffel tower were at the top of my list. Without hesitation, I booked a two week trip to the French Rivera and Paris.  It was a journey of a lifetime.  Not only were amazing friendships cultivated, but it was on that trip that i discovered that food and travel are the embers that that keep my soul on fire.

It wasn't until I arrived back in Nashville with my passport that I realized I had been bit. Wanderlust had completely taken over.  I already started thinking about where I wanted to go next.  It was then that I decided that it was more important to have camera full of photos and a tattered journal full of stories than anything else. My heart was overflowing.

One of my favorite quotes that resonates is from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland:

"Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures...."

Join me as I explore near and far away places, filling my passport full of stamps and satiating my appetite with some of the most amazing cuisine the world has to offer.

Thanks for reading!
