After last week’s disaster of a tasting, I decided to skip Trader Joe’s and hit up Aldi for this week’s sparkling feature. Spoiler alert- It’s amazing.

When shopping for a bottle of bubbles, the price can be all over the board. You have some bottles that are less than $10.00 while others, well, we won’t talk about how pricey those bottles are. Remember, just because it costs more doesn’t always mean that it will taste better.

If you’re new to TJ Tuesday, Welcome! Each week, we sample a bottle of wine from Trader Joe’s/ Aldi. Typically, each bottle is under $10.00. Trust me, it’s a great way to find out all the good stuff at your local grocery without having to spend your cash.

January was deemed the month of bubbles, so we finished strong with a bottle of Tourner. I picked up this bottle of California Sparkling Wine from Aldi. Aldi has a great selection of Moscato and Prosecco, but I’ve found it rather difficult to snag a bottle of Brut. As soon as I laid eyes on this, I knew it had to be this week’s feature.

Keeping my fingers crossed, I popped open the bottle and poured myself a glass. Let’s jump into the tasting details, shall we?

TASTING NOTES:

  • Classic Cork

  • Lovely pale gold color; definite fizz factor (even on the second day)

  • Tastes more tart than sweet

  • Crisp and refreshing; Medium acidity

  • Notes of citrus, green apple and the slightest bit of yeastiness- think freshly baked bread

Verdict:

Tourner is a sparkling wine that over-delivers at this inexpensive price point. It can easily be enjoyed solo or in a mixed drink like a mimosa or spritz. After enjoying a few glasses of this bottle, I can see why Aldi has a difficult time keeping it in stock. It’s a fantastic find at $7.49. If you snag a bottle, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Until Next Time!
