Hi, friends! It’s been way too long since I’ve done a Trader Joe’s wine review. Admittedly, work got a little crazy, and I was trying that whole “healthy lifestyle” thing and cutting back on the amount of wine I was enjoying. Alas, I am back and wish I had better news. When I was at Trader Joe’s last week, I noticed a few new bottles of wine that caught my eye.

After a hellacious week, I decided to open the bottle of Motif I purchased. This is a 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Hills Lake County, California. Even with the low price point, I had high hopes for this wine out of California.

The label indicated that this wine would pair wonderfully with Duck, Red Pasta, or Aged Cheese, and I would notice notes of Vanilla and Licorice.

I opened the bottle and snapped the photo above, and took a sip. I could barely keep it in my mouth as it was incredibly alcoholic. I decided to let it open and even decanted the bottle thinking maybe it would be better after it opened up. To my dismay, it still tasted terrible. In fact, I’m questioning if my tastebuds have been burned off from the alcohol.

Verdict:

Steer clear of this bottle and save your money. There are easily ten other bottles at Trader Joe’s within this price point that are much better than Motif. In fact, I am going to pour the rest of the bottle down the drain now!

Until Next Time!
